“Pipes” Help Usher in Another “Miracle on Madison”

The 23rd Annual Miracle on Madison Avenue on Sunday, December 6, 2009 was a shoppers’ paradise. Event organizers estimate that over $250 thousand was raised to support the important work the Children’s Aid Society of New York.

Shoppers on Madison Avenue from 57th to 86th Streets were greeted by balloons and signs outside shops indicating participation. A total of 77 caring retailers agreed to generously donate 20% of the day’s sales to Children’s Aid health services which ensure full health care access and preventative care to the neediest children and families of New York City.

The Pipes of Christmas was back on hand and presented a lively preview of their new Madison Avenue holiday tradition. The program featured performances by award-winning fiddler Calum Pasqua and traditional Highland Dance sets performed by the NY Celtic Dancers.

Other performances included gospel music from The Labor of Love Ensemble, rhythmic performances from COBU, Inc., and a capella music from Figgy Puddynge.

There was a flurry of activity up and down the Avenue. CBS-FM Radio played holiday music, volunteers from our newest community school, the High School for Excellence and Innovation in Washington Heights, expertly sold raffle tickets to shoppers, and volunteers handed out samples of Glowelle® Beauty Supply Drink, M&M’S® BRAND Premiums Chocolate Candies and Mini Babybel® Cheeses.

Under the hospitality tents, still more volunteers decorated and sold festive holiday wreaths and Children’s Aid teens sold holiday cards that they had designed. Also, under the heated tents The Carlyle Restaurant held a food tasting. This year’s butternut squash soup and hot apple cider were divine and certainly hit the spot!

Once again, Miracle Sunday turned into the perfect December day for holiday shopping and helping children in need. The Pipes of Christmas was proud to be a part of this annual Madison Avenue tradition.
