“Pipes” Performers to Share in the Holiday Spirit at 22nd Annual
Miracle on Madison Avenue Fundraiser
For the third year in a row, the Pipes of Christmas will participate in Miracle on Madison Avenue, the annual charity shopping event to benefit the NY Children’s Aid Society.  The annual holiday fundraiser that brings together leading luxury retailers, restaurants and galleries on Madison Avenue, returns on Sunday, December 7, 2008.  This year marks the 22nd anniversary of Miracle, a true New York City tradition.

Shoppers will be treated to a special preview performance from the Pipes of Christmas, the newest holiday concert in the neighborhood. The program will feature 2007 Glenfiddich Scottish Fiddle Champion Calum Pasqua and the New York Celtic Dancers. The annual Celtic Christmas concert will be held just up the block at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church – located at Madison Avenue at 74rd Street – on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 2:30 PM.

On Sunday, December 7th, between noon and 5:00 PM, approximately 100 participating establishments on Madison Avenue between 57 and 86 Streets will donate 20 percent of the day’s sales to The Children’s Aid Society’s health care programs, which provide much needed care to children who might not otherwise get basic medical attention.

Madison Avenue will be closed off to vehicular traffic from 68th to 72nd Streets, the only day of the year that the avenue is closed. Specialty tents will line the avenue within this area, including a Spa Tent, the Taste of Madison Avenue Tent and a Children’s Entertainment Tent.

According to “Pipes” producer Robert Currie, “We were thrilled when the Children’s Aid Society asked us back to participate in the Miracle on Madison event.  Now that our concert has established itself as a NYC Christmas tradition, we feel compelled to continue to contribute to the greater good of the city.  We couldn’t think of a better cause during the holidays than the well-being of children.  We were honored to have played even a small role in helping to raise the much-needed funds for children’s health care programs.”

The 2007 Miracle on Madison program raised in excess of $350,000 thanks to the generosity of participating retailers.  One hundred percent of the net proceeds of Miracle benefit the health care programs of Children’s Aid.  The Children’s Aid Society provides vital health services to underserved children – children that are most often not connected to primary physicians and are therefore not getting preventive care, the most important determinant of good health. Patients receive both acute and preventive treatment, medical, dental and mental health care, counseling by a health educator, ophthalmology – optometry and more.
