Acclaimed soloist Sharon Lyons will join the line-up of award-winning musicians performing traditional Scottish and Irish holiday classics at the 24th annual Pipes of Christmas in New York City and New Jersey on December 17 and 18, 2022. An accomplished classically trained soprano, Ms. Lyons will be performing Irish and Scots Gaelic music from her new Christmas album This Holy Night, which releases in November 2022.
Originally from Dublin, Ms. Lyons currently lives in Kerry, Ireland with her husband and son. She holds an A.R.I.A.M diploma for Singing Teaching, a Bachelor of Music Education Honours Degree from Trinity College, Dublin, a First Class Honours in a Master of Arts in Chant and Ritual Song and a PhD Arts Practice from the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick.
Ms. Lyons worked in a leadership music role in the cathedral of the Dublin Diocese until moving to Kerry in 2018, and is now director of music in St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney. She directs other choirs throughout Ireland and is a part time music lecturer in NUI Maynooth.
One of her most exciting ventures to date was her appearance in a singing and acting capacity on the hit television series ‘The Vikings” (produced by the History Channel, USA). She sings a self-composed piece called Sacrifice written specifically for the series. This has received viral status on YouTube, and continues to collect new fans on a regular basis to this day.
Ms. Lyons’ recordings include her EP entitled ‘Simply Christmas’. This collection boasts a new Irish translation of the much loved Christmas Song ‘O Holy Night’. Her full length Christmas album This Holy Night is due for release in November 2022. Concert tickets will go on sale November 2, 2022 via the Pipes of Christmas website. Advance ticket access is available to all Pipes of Christmas donors via the production’s fundraising campaign.
About “The Pipes of Christmas”
Since its debut in 1999, The Pipes of Christmas has played to standing-room-only audiences. Now a cherished holiday event, the concert gives audiences a stirring and reverent celebration of the Christmas season and the Celtic spirit. Audience-goers return year after year to experience the program, many reporting that the Pipes of Christmas has become part of their family’s annual Christmas tradition.
The concert has been lavished with critical acclaim. In his review for Classical New Jersey Magazine, Paul Somers wrote, “The whole evening was constructed to introduce gem after gem and still have a finale which raised the roof. In short, it was like a well-constructed fireworks show on the Glorious Fourth. The Westfield Leader described the concert as “a unique sound of power and glory nowhere else to be found.”
